We humans live with being chained to time.
In this case, time means ‘mental time’.
We live with the past and the future in our mind.
We cling to our past experiences and try to repeat the pleasure and satisfaction.
All of what your mind acquired and have are the past.
The past is the fortune of your mind, and you are afraid of losing it.
You have many friends, so you are afraid of losing them.
You are much honored, so you are afraid of losing the honor.
You are highly reputed in the society, so you are afraid of losing the reputation.
You know happy experiences, so you are afraid of losing them.
Whatever it is, what you have is the past,
and you live with the obsession to the past.
And then you hope to ‘get more’ and ‘get something different’,
and set an ideal, have a desire and continue to yearn.
The past becomes enlarged, so does the future, and your mind becomes puffed up.
However, due to being puffed up, you are afraid of losing it,
and live being tied up in fear.
And when you lose it, you feel a sense of losing and despair.
The more and greater past your mind holds,
the bigger your fear becomes, and your mind takes on a burden.
Even though renouncing all of it is the true freedom —
Can you live beyond the past and the future?
Can you live without any mental time?
Clinging to the past and the future is escaping from the reality as it is,
and the escape of mind generates the very feeling of fear.
If the mind clings to neither the past nor the future, it becomes free.
The free spirit is exactly the real fortune which is indispensable for us.
