“Love is not consolation. It’s light.”
Do we really grow up by consolation?
Does consolation make us truly mature?
What we need is not temporary consolation,
but becoming spiritually independent so that we can stand on our own feet, isn’t it?
True love is to urge people to become spiritually independent,
and only spoiling by consolation isn’t good for them.
Of course, this doesn’t mean turning away from them coldly.
It means that helping them to stand firmly on their own feet,
to face their problems by themselves
and to overcome the problems by themselves.
Humans grow up by sufferings.
However, consolation is at risk for giving them a chance to escape by relieving the sufferings.
Whether it is physical consolation or mental consolation,
if an escape route from sufferings is made, they could never grow up.
It is the same with not only others but also with ourselves.
If we escape from sufferings and are lost in temporary consolation, we can’t grow up at all.
Consolation is like easy lukewarm water, which has no seriousness.
To live is not easy, but enormously serious.
To suffer is surely hard,
but by suffering we can find spiritual strength.
From there we can learn freedom of mind and importance of independence.
Consolation doesn’t change us.
By facing sufferings and overcoming them, we can truly grow up,
and the real self-transformation occurs.
This self-transformation or true maturity occurs not by consolation but by the light of truth.
